The photography collection at the National Galleries of Scotland holds a number of portraits depicting some of the best known artists of the last century: many of them taken by fellow artists. These images can provide us with a unique insight into a particular moment in time, often illustrating the connections between significant artists and their contemporaries.

In this film curators from the National Galleries of Scotland and photographer David Eustace discuss some of these photographic portraits with particular reference to the work of Lee Miller, Robert Mapplethorpe and Andy Warhol.
