Multidisciplinary artist Jose Campos, who works under the name Studio Lenca, was born in El Salvador. As a child, he fled the country’s brutal civil war with his family, eventually settling in the United States.

His brightly coloured paintings explore themes of migration and identity, combining Indigenous folk motifs with symbolically powerful found objects. His practice spans painting, sculpture, dance, and education. He joins us at the Jackson’s Studio to discuss his Margate-based practice, the materials he loves most, and his philosophy of experimentation.
