TVO Docs | Arthur's Stone & A Georgian Mine | Episode 2 | Digging For Britain S10 | TVO Docs @tvo | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
In this episode we feature the best archaeological digs that happened this year in the West of the UK.
Located near Dorstone, on the border of England and Wales, Arthur’s Stone is a chambered tomb and its construction is thought to predate Stonehenge. It’s also a Scheduled Ancient Monument, protected by law, so no in-depth archaeology has ever happened here and so these great stones, their purpose and how they connect to the land that surrounds them, has long been a mystery. This year that is changing as Manchester University's Julian Thomas got permission to undertake a major investigation that reveals evidence of not only an incredible ceremonial entrance way, but also some stunning 5000-year-old stone walls. Alice’s investigation allows her to picture how the site might have looked when it was being constructed, 5000 years ago back in the stone age.
