TVO Docs | Headless Romans & Anglo Saxon Gold | Episode 6 | Digging For Britain S10 | TVO Docs @tvo | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
In this episode we seek out the very best archaeological stories being uncovered in the North of the UK.
On the spectacular Hebridean island of Islay, a landowner thought some pigs might be able to help clear a patch of wild, overgrown land to make it suitable for grazing. It didn't work, but the pigs' snouts did unearth something much more interesting, evidence of a hunter gatherer’s camp occupied almost as far back as the last Ice Age. Alice visits to see the stunning array of fine flint tools and a hearth that would have made the perfect fireside camp, uncovered in one of the most picturesque locations in the British Isles.
