I spent about 30 minutes making the background. Then later that evening while listening to an audio book I spent another 20 minutes drawing on the page. Then today I took another 30 minutes to paint it. This is how I typically work in my art journal. Paint and such in the studio, pencil and pen work largely while watching a movie or listening to a book [or music] and then more studio work the next day.

Thanks everyone for the great comments and I am thrilled to know that many of us feel like art [art journaling] is and can be whatever we define it as for ourselves. I love all forms of art and art journaling. But then I love all of the colors too :)

The stencil I used in the background was a DCWV #19. It isn't available on JoAnn.com right now [I'm thinking it is out of stock]. Here is a link to some of their other stencils [they are the only stencil brand I am currently using]. They call them templates... so if you can find them you might look under scrapbook templates.

Also the nail polish I am wearing is: OPI NLB29 "Do You Lilac It?"
