Ajijic, Mexico is a smaller Mexican town on Lake Chapala about an hour south of Guadalajara. Ajijic is a very popular destination for US and Canadian retirees, especially during the winter months. We found it to be a lovely locale full of friendly folks, and definitely a good place to start in Mexico if you’re concerned about not having enough Spanish language skills. It is also the priciest location we’ve visited so far in Mexico, but still a deal by US and Canadian price standards.
