Could exotic lifeforms be brewing on Titan? Saturn’s largest moon is covered with the carbon-based building blocks of life and is the only place that we know of besides Earth with large lakes on its surface – made from super-chilled methane instead of water.
In 2017, NASA discovered that Titan’s thick, hazy atmosphere contains acrylonitrile, a lipid-like molecule that could cluster together within the moon’s lakes to form vesicles. These hollow spheres strongly resemble cell membranes on Earth, but a follow-up study determined that vesicles would be unlikely to form on Titan without an additional source of energy, casting doubt on their emergence. Now, a recent study coauthored by NASA shows that the missing spark could come from rainfall.

![Far and Wide Part 4: Teamwork
The James Webb and Nancy Grace Roman space telescopes are NASA’s latest flagship astrophysics observatories. One is in space already and the other will join it there soon. These two telescopes look very different, have different objectives, and together will advance our understanding of the universe. This four-part video series explores the differences and synergies of Roman and Webb.
Despite different observational strategies, both telescopes will be stationed in space at the Legrange Point 2, a relatively stable region a million miles away from Earth. From there, both will have an almost unobstructed view of the whole sky and low temperatures to keep their instruments cool.
Roman’s broad and enduring view will mesh perfectly with Webb’s focused gaze. As Roman discovers new wonders throughout the cosmos, Webb can follow up with detailed observations to help astronomers understand them better.

![Artemis Science: Visualizing NASA’s Next Lunar Flyby
NASA’s Artemis missions are sending astronauts to explore the Moon for the first time in over fifty years. In early 2026, four Artemis II crew members will fly by the lunar far side at an altitude of approximately 3,000 to 9,000 miles, testing the Orion capsule and venturing further into deep space than anyone has gone before.
Artemis II Visualization Lead Ernie Wright has simulated views of the flyby using detailed topographic maps of the lunar terrain and photorealistic lighting scenarios. The Artemis II crew members are using these visualizations to prepare for their historic mission, which will pave the way for future exploration of the Moon’s surface and beyond.

![Largest Organics Yet Discovered on Mars
Since arriving at Mars in 2012, NASA’s Curiosity rover has been ingesting samples of Martian rock, soil, and air to better understand the past and present habitability of the Red Planet. Of particular interest to its search are organic molecules: the building blocks of life. Now, Curiosity’s onboard chemistry lab has detected long-chain hydrocarbons in a mudstone called “Cumberland,” the largest organics yet discovered on Mars.
