Most souls get to move on to the afterlife. Saints get stuck working the help desk. It’s effectively the gig economy of the spiritual world.

In this clip from "Patron Saints" Sheldrake-Vernon dialogue 99, Rupert contrasts the "vertical takeoff" of total liberation—leaving the world behind—with the saint's burden of staying grounded in the local parish.

While the Buddha might be too serene to be bothered with your math test or business deal, the saints are specialists "for hire". St. Anthony handles the lost keys; St. Jude takes the lost causes. They are still on the clock, but as Rupert notes, if we don't file a request, they can't do the job.
