In this excerpt from _A Glorious Accident_ Rupert talks about habits and evolution as a fundamental aspect of nature, rather than laws. Around the table with him are Stephen Jay Gould, Oliver Sacks, Daniel Dennett, Freeman Dyson and Stephen Toulmin.

Hosted by Dutch journalist Wim Kayzer, _A Glorious Accident_ was filmed in the Netherlands by the VPRO and produced by Nellie Kamer. The series, comprising interviews and a roundtable discussion, was shown in 1993 on Dutch television and in the United States on WNET TV in 1994. It was a huge hit in Holland and the companion book was a number one best seller there. In an interview about it, Rupert said, "It was a media phenomenon, and it was the most fruitful of anything I've ever done in terms of the response I've gotten. When I go to Holland, people stop me on the street and talk to me on the trains. They just want to talk about scientific ideas."
