What if the people we trust to protect our city’s future… are quietly selling us a false choice?
In this 5-minute clip, you’ll hear City of Evanston’s Housing & Grants Manager, Sarah Flax, tell the Finance & Budget Committee that Evanston must choose:“Affordability or staying afloat.”That it’s either tax revenue… or housing our own people.
But Councilmember Clare Kelly wasn’t having it and she pushes back hard with a truth more residents need to hear:We CAN have both.We can prioritize real affordability without pricing out the very people who built this community.
So I ask YOU: Is this “either-or” narrative being used to justify gentrification and passive displacement? Are city staff like Sarah Flax simply following orders of Daniel Biss to bring in more tax dollars at any cost… even if it means pushing out working families?
