Check out this construction time lapse of Wellington’s new archival building, located on the corner of Mulgrave and Aitken streets in Thorndon. The stunning façade was designed by Tihei Design Consultants, a mana whenua endorsed co-design partner, in collaboration with architectural firm Warren and Mahoney.
The building will occupy kaimahi from Archives New Zealand, National Library of New Zealand and Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision. Its facilities will encompass repositories, freezer and cold stores, conservation studios, AV suites, workspaces for kaimahi and reading rooms for the general public.
With 947 façade panels manufactured and installed by Thermosash Commercial Limited, the LT McGuinness team can now fully focus its attention on fitting out the interior of the building, which is set for kaimahi to begin occupation in mid-2025.
