Plan C | Archimedes Mouse for Virtually Nothing @Plan-C | Uploaded September 2017 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Shows how to convert a cheap £2.50 USB optical mouse for use with Archimedes computer. Principle also works for any old computer that expects a quadrature signal (Amiga, Atari ST, BBC etc).
This cheap mouse and many others use a PAN101BSI optical chip which outputs quadrature signals for direction.
The buttons need to be isolated by cutting traces and wiring a common ground to one side and 5v via pullup resistor to the other side of each button.
Not my hack. Cobbled together from a few bits and pieces of info on the internet.
Good luck all.
