In this spoiler-free review, we’re talking about Archie #1 from Oni Press, the brand-new ongoing series from writer Ben H. Winters and Eisner Award-winning artist Fábio Moon.
This new series reintroduces one of comics’ most iconic characters for a new era, combining the charm and humor of classic Archie Comics with a contemporary mystery involving Archie, Jughead and the past, present and future of Riverdale.
The first issue is fast-paced, witty and packed with details, bonus stories, puzzles and pin-ups. Fábio Moon’s artwork makes Riverdale feel like a fully realized world, while the mystery gives this new series plenty of momentum heading into future issues.
In this review, I talk about the story, artwork, characters, mystery, pacing and why I think this is a great debut for the new Archie Comics era at Oni Press.
