This video was a goddamn labour of love. @ Fortiche and Riot, please hire me to make promo material for your show. It is unbelievably fun.
Arcane has very quickly become my favourite show of all time, or at LEAST very high up on the list (we'll see once TDP makes its long-awaited comeback lmfao). I've always been unfortunately picky with my media and even then have mostly been a low- to mid-key fan of things the last few years (I pretty much only make videos of things that I love), but from the VERY FIRST SHOT OF THE TRAILER this show stole my heart completely and entirely. I watched it around Christmas (and was VERY shocked I'd never heard of it before because it is directly up my alley) and not a single day has gone by since where I haven't extensively and emotionally thought about it. The characters? My darlings. The writing? Phenomenal and compelling. The world-building? Immersive as fuck. The ANIMATION??? STUNNING, LEGENDARY, EVERYTHING I HAVE /EVER/ WANTED BOTH FROM A VISUAL AND AN EDITING PERSPECTIVE, HOLY SHIT
Also if you couldn't tell from my icon, Vi is my favourite.
So I needed to make a video, if not multiple (I have.......so many ideas) since this show pretty much dug my editing inspiration out of the depths of hell and brought it back. (How long will it stay?? Who knows. Will I now finish my insane backlog of videos?? Unclear. Will I end up only editing with Arcane for the rest of my life?? Non-zero chance.)
I chose this song to start because 1) it's been one of my favourites since I was a kid, and 2) one of the first videos I ever uploaded to this channel was with this song (this one: youtube.com/watch?v=AzNOpS5EUuc), and I wanted to do it some more justice. It was also a good base for experimenting with Arcane's visuals/plot points and action sequences without being an overwhelming amount of either. Plus I love re-using songs from old videos and seeing how I've improved over the years!
This ended up taking me...about three months? I started the first week of January, then worked on it on-and-off until about two weeks ago and then I just powered through the last half of the editing. The masking in the intro sequence alone took me four days, lol. I watched so many video essays and documentaries while doing it 🤣
Anyway, enough of my incoherent rambling. I love Arcane and all of you should watch it. If you have watched it then PLEASE leave your thoughts in the comments because I am looking for any reason to talk about it. Tell me who your faves are and roast me if I didn't do them justice in this video. (I think this is the only video I've ever made where I've had MORE footage than I knew what to do with instead of running out and scrambling near the end...iconic)
