Arcade games are a form of public art. Since 2021, Arcade Commons has produced and exhibited five new arcade cabinets through a series of annual thematic open calls including Hands-Free Video Arcade Cabinet (2021); Hybrid Multiplayer Arcade Cabinet (2022); Playing with Light: Glowing Arcade Cabinet (2023); Playable Climate: Weather Station Arcade Cabinet (2024); Infinite Continues: Collective Achievement Arcade Game (2025). Arcade Commons board member and indie arcade artist Allen Riley will describe the process of conceptualizing a theme, seeking funding for artistic production, developing an open call to recruit game designers, artists, and fabricators, and approaches to organizing and supporting the process of creating and exhibiting a new game.
MAGFest is run by MAGFest, Inc., a volunteer-supported 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the appreciation of video games, video game culture, and video game music. We achieve this through numerous events, such as Super MAGFest, MAGWest, MAGStock, and Bit Gen Gamer Fest. We also support other not-for-profit organizations, such as Child’s Play.
