1st April and damson and earliest pear blossom is almost fully out, other plums are coming on well and apple buds are swelling. I decided to plat some potatoes and other vegetables, and empty our privy (outdoor off mains toilet) bucket into a pit over which a pumpkin will be planted.
Of course I would not dream of growing root vegetables or salads over raw human sewage, but pumpkins are totally OK. By the time they are ripe no pathogens could possibly survive from this bucket, besides which they grow above the soil, have a thick skin and are eaten peeled and cooked.
