Apple announced a new set of parental controls at WWDC this week, and we want to talk about what they got right, what they got wrong, and what's still missing.
Simpler, easier-to-use controls are a step in the right direction. Parents have needed that for a long time. But easier is not the same as safer.
Blurring explicit content and then asking a child if they'd like to view it anyway is not protection. No child has the emotional or physiological capability to consistently make the right call in that moment. That responsibility should never land on them in the first place.
The goal of child safety technology should be prevention, not configuration. Parents do not need more settings to manage. They need technology that works on behalf of their family before something harmful happens.
That has been Bark's mission since 2015. We block. We detect. We alert. We do not ask your child to decide.
We hope every technology company, Apple included, continues moving in this direction. Kids deserve nothing less.
