I have a couple remotes that have seen better days. The Samsung remote has buttons that no longer work and a few that require a hard press to register. The Apple remote was dropped in a beverage.

29 Sep Update: Towards then end of the video my brother in law mentioned the apple remote was turning on the apple tv at random. He eventually powered down the apple TV and unplugged it for a few minutes and then plugged in back in and paired the remote again. All is now working fine.
