In video 4 of this MacBook Pro tutorial series, we will have a closer look at the 2019 Mac Book Pro.
While the newer models feature thunderbolt connectors that allow you to connect and charge the MacBook to a monitor with only one cable, the older 2011 version is easily upgradeable with SSD and memory.

For comparison purposes, I measured the boot-up time of both MacBooks using a stopwatch.
Processor wise the new MacBook is very much superior, while the old one is especially easy to upgrade with affordable SSD storage.
Something that the new MacBook lacks, in the stock configuration it only includes 128GB, and picking a different configuration quickly becomes pricy as Apple tries to capture the customer's willingness to pay by employing differential pricing.
If you don’t own a MacBook I would still gravitate towards buying new, simply because it’s hard to tell the condition of a used MacBook Pro, since it may have been used very differently from owner to owner.
On the other hand, if you already own a MacBook and are thinking about getting a new one, delaying a purchase by upgrading existing hardware may be an attractive option.
Having said that, not all MacBooks are created the same, and some models may be difficult or impossible to upgrade.
Please research your model and make sure it’s upgradable before ordering parts.
For more serious work such as video editing, I much prefer using iMac’s or tower MacPro’s because they have a better thermal design.
