Restored NASA documentary from 1971 about the Apollo 15 moon mission. Featured are the stand-up EVA, the three traverses of the lunar surface, film taken from the Lunar Rover, hammer and feather test of Galileo's theory on falling objects in gravity fields, Worden's EVA, sub-satellite launching, X-ray pulsar observations, and splash down with one parachute collapsed.
The documentary was re-edited to replace onboard film sequences, TV and photos with higher quality versions.
The video was remasted to improve color balance and stability. AI upscale (Topaz AI) was used to resample the video from HD to 4K resolution. While it works in most cases, some artifacts are present in some sequences.
Sound and image cleanup, AI upscale and color restoration by RetroSpace HD. Some music segments were replaced by background sounds.
Apollo 15 was the ninth crewed mission in the United States' Apollo program and the fourth to land on the Moon. Apollo 15 saw the first use of the Lunar Roving Vehicle. The mission began on July 26 and ended on August 7, 1971, with the lunar surface exploration taking place between July 30 and August 2. Commander David Scott and Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin landed near Hadley Rille and explored the local area using the rover. At the same time, Command Module Pilot Alfred Worden orbited the Moon, operating the sensors in the scientific instrument module (SIM) bay of the service module.
