New Year. Same Diabetes. I'm not a fan of extreme New Year's Resolutions - probably becuase I know I'd never be able to stick to them, and also probably because any big change is infinitely more complicated when you live with Type 1 Diabetes. However, I am a big fan of taking stock, reflecting on the past and setting solid, actionable intentions for the future. So in today's video, I'm sharing how I set goals, specifically relating to my Type 1 Diabetes, and how I create solid, actionable steps to pursue those goals, while including a healthy dose of room for error, fun, and most of all - prioritizing my mental health through it all.
Type 1 Diabetes is a notoriously costly condition to live with. But how much exactly? Where do the costs come from? In this video I absolutely bare all and share exactly what I pay on average per year to live with my Type 1 Diabetes.

Sometimes I think I get so focused in on my Type 1 Diabetes metrics that we all know so well (dosing, pre-blousing, blood sugar, time in range, etc) that I think I focus on those metrics above all else and forget that my overall health needs more attention. And when I focus in on my overall health, these seemingly unrelated healthful practices have a remarkably positive impact on my Type 1 Diabetes.

Just under a year ago I moved from the UK to the US. Having spent all of my adult life thus far in the UK, whose' healthcare system is funded by the NHS (Universal Nationalized Healthcare). As a result, I had no interaction with the US healthcare system or even paying for my healthcare...until now. Living with Type 1 Diabetes is hard enough, the American Healthcare system has taken this difficulty to another level.

For those of you watching on Publication Day...HAPPY WORLD DIABETES DAY!
Living with this condition is hard...really hard...and I'm in no way trying to undermine that difficulty, but it's given me a lot of positives and taught me a ton of lessons too that are so linked to living with the condition it would be a huge oversight not to acknowledge them.
I also truly believe in acknowledging the positives we can become stronger, more resilient, and can live happier, healthier lives.
Happy Day to you My Fellow Diabuddies Remember, always, you are not alone 💙
Carb Counting is a fantastic tool to have in your diabetes toolkit, but what happens when you don't have a nutrition label to read and extract the data from? How do you bolus for...an apple? Potatoes? I cover all this in today's video, with special feature of my personal favorite (not sponsored!) Carb Counting App: Carbs & Cals 🍎 🥔 🌽 🍅

I've been keen to do this "Assumption about Me" Tag for a while, so as to make sure you don't think I'm something that I'm not! I think often times, on the internet, and perhaps especially when living with a chronic condition we can look outside ourselves and think everyone else is doing better than us, stronger than us, just simply has it all together...
It could not be more important for me to debunk any of these assumptions about myself. This is a community for kindness, compassion, joy, and REALNESS...
This is your reminder today to know that what you see on the internet does not always spark a true thought. Have kindness with yourself and patience and remember...we're all on our own journeys and we're doing the best we can. One step at a time.
Come as you are, wherever you are on your journey...you are WELCOME HERE 💙

*DISCLAIMER: My Dexcom G6 is measuring my interstitial fluid – So even though I do mention ‘blood sugars’ in this video, my Dexcom G6 is measuring something different to what a blood glucose meter would. A Blood Glucose meter and your CGM will both give you a number. They measure glucose from different sources (blood and interstitial fluid), so those numbers may be different. As always If your glucose alerts and readings from the Dexcom G6 do not match symptoms or expectations, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions.

Choosing an insulin pump is an extremely personal choice, perhaps one of the biggest choices a Diabetic will make in his or her life. Since switching from the Medtronic 640g to the Tandem t:slim x2 , I’ve had a lot of questions about this process; how I came to choose it and what I like/dislike about it, so I thought it best to make a video about this very subject, with the hope that it will help others with their big decision. All diabetics have a unique and varied set of requirements depending on what they want and need out out their device, so I can’t stress enough how important it is to do your own research in finding the right pump for your needs. And I really hope this is a helpful resource in that quest!

Does anyone else find that a bad infusion set site placement can really cramp their style? I do! I've been on an insulin pump for almost 3 years* (hard to believe!) and I've tried a bunch of different infusion set sites - some work so much better than others (at least that's what I've experienced - we're all different)! So I decided to make this video featuring my three favorite sites and the reasons why I love them. I hope you guys find this useful and informative, and most of all are enjoying a wonderful start to the New Year! *At the time of recording this video I'm on the TSlim x2 Insulin Pump.

This week I'm taking it back to basics once more with another awesome tool to have in your Type 1 Diabetes kit: Carb Counting!
Carb counting was introduced to me relatively early on in my diagnosis, but my serious implementation of it has taken a while to stick (yep - I'm that girl!!). Having really committed myself to doing more genuine counting and having a less 'by guess and by golly' mentality has been a game changer for me, and really help aid in my Type 1 Diabetes control. So I'm taking it back to basics and wanted to share my step by step guide to carb counting for insulin dosing!

**IMPORTANT** Before implementing this into your daily diabetes routine it is ESSENTIAL that you have your insulin to carb ratio (which is unique to everyone) worked through with your health care provider. Please do not use the ratios mentioned in this video as they are just example figures.

Since losing my Dad a few months ago, my life has been turned upside down. I’ve talked about dealing with stress and overwhelm from living with a chronic condition on my channel previously, but what happed to me when I lost my Dad and as I continue to mourn his passing has effected my diabetes, and I’m trying to get to grips with how to deal with this and what to do to help my health - both physical and mental.
