Join us for our ninth annual Bransten Lecture with multidisciplinary artist Rose B. Simpson. Working in ceramic, bronze, performance, and art cars, her practice centers around the figure as a proxy to address the emotional and existential impacts of global humanity. Simpson will discuss her practice and her upcoming exhibition "LEXICON," which will transform Wilsey Court into a Southwest environment through a large mural and two custom cars.
Each year, the Bransten Lecture connects us with the art and ideas of our time by providing a platform to artists and thought leaders such as Carrie Mae Weems, Lisa Reihana, Wangechi Mutu, and Isaac Julien. This program is made possible by the generous support of the Robert and Daphne Bransten Lecture Fund.
About the artist
Rose B. Simpson (b. 1983, Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico) has an MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts. In 2024, Simpson debuted a public sculpture project at Madison Square Park and Inwood Hill Park, New York, and exhibited in the Whitney Biennial. Her works are in museum collections, including the Met, New York; Hirshhorn, Washington, DC; Guggenheim, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Denver Art Museum; Portland Art Museum; LACMA, Los Angeles; and SFMOMA.
