Maddy Harland from Permaculture magazine asks Grace Solkinson how we can design for animals in permaculture to ensure their wellbeing and provide for their highest needs, and not just as livestock for profit. Grace speaks about natural behaviour, the benefits of wild herds on the land, and replicating this by having a central drylot system that is only for night time shelter, with multiple pastures where animals rotationally graze, allowing the pasture to recover and the animals to maintain good health. They discuss mob grazing, chicken tractors, chicken forage systems, minimising food costs and worming, and happy animals in a more natural setting...
