In Northern England, a man heads out on a journey into the woods to reconnect with the estranged hermit brother with whom he shared a complicated past that was altered by life-changing events decades ago.
Anemone, directed by Ronan Day-Lewis, explores fractured relationships between brothers, fathers, and sons, as estranged siblings reunite in a remote cabin and confront their past and generational trauma.
The film’s visual effects were created by Union VFX under the supervision of Simon Hughes, working closely with the director to support the emotional tone of the story. The project involved complex long shots and the development of new techniques to achieve the desired realism.
Key VFX work includes the apocalyptic hailstorm sequence, carefully layered to maintain visual clarity, and a symbolic CG creature representing the protagonist’s inner trauma, inspired by the director’s own artwork.
Additional effects include a fully CG forest environment for a pivotal long shot, CG vehicles and skies, iridescent skin effects, and enhanced creature and water interactions.
