Welcome back! Today we're discussing the Imperial Radch Trilogy by Ann Leckie, a sci-fi trilogy about artificial consciousness!
This award-winning series is literary sci-fi, meaning it focuses on art, form and style. i.e, it’s a bit fancy.
Our narrator, Breq, is an artificial consciousness. So every single line in this trilogy is written as if it’s a computer telling the story. There’s a strong character voice, an unreliable narrator, and a distinct artistic style. It’s truly fascinating sci-fi.
Although, it’s also a bit tough to get through. The narrator has a very non-human perspective, and it’s a slow, ponderous, deep story that reflects on life and humanity.
