No one comes back; no one can escape the wheel of time.
— Madredeus, O Pastor
What is real, and what is a dream? How can we change what has already happened? Can we escape the wheel of time? This is "O Pastor" with an ancient twist, a well-known (and quite melancholic) melody that can lead us to so many challenging questions.
The song, composed by the great Portuguese band Madredeus, is performed here by Lina Palera on the ancient lyre and vocals, along with Ntina Saratzi on the cello.
Lina performs on her 13strings Lyre of Olympus, masterfully handcrafted in Greece by the LUTHIEROS family.

Lina Palera is a world-renowned lyre player with live performances at numerous concert halls, museums, international conferences, et cetera. such as the Greek Museum of Byzantine Culture and the Frankfurt Musikmesse.
She has an extensive discography as a guitar player and a vocalist. “Aurora” is her first music album dedicated solely to the ancient lyre and the emotions it can evoke.

🎙️ Who is Ntina?
Ntina Saratzi is a seasoned cello player with formal education from the age of 7 and holds degrees both in Harmony and Counterpoint.
She is a permanent member of the orchestra "Antistixis" and has participated in various musical ensembles all over Greece. Moreover, she has collaborated with notable Greek musicians such as Manolis Mitsias, Tasis Christogiannopoulos, and Mimis Plessas.

She believes that one of the most remarkable skills for a contemporary musician is the art of improvisation, which she tries to infuse into all her students.
🎼 🇵🇹 Original lyrics in Portuguese
Ai que ninguém volta
Ao que já deixou
Ninguém larga a grande roda
Ninguém sabe onde é que andou
Ai que ninguém lembra
Nem o que sonhou
E aquele menino canta
A cantiga do pastor
Ao largo ainda arde
A barca da fantasia
E o meu sonho acaba tarde
Deixa a alma de vigia
Ao largo ainda arde
A barca da fantasia
E o meu sonho acaba tarde
Acordar é que eu não queria
🎼 🇬🇧 Lyrics in English
(loosely translated)
Oh, no one can turn back
To what one has left behind
No one can leave the "great" wheel
No one even knows where one has been.
Oh, no one remembers
Not even what one has dreamed of
(and) that little boy is chanting
The shepherd's song.
The bark of fantasy
is still on fire
And my dream ends so late
It leaves my soul on guard
The bark of fantasy
is still on fire
And my dream ends so late
All I want is not to wake up.
