Ancient City of Sigiriya
The ruins of this capital were built by King Kassapa I (477–95) . This ancient city lies on top of the steep slopes and at the summit of a granite peak 180m high (named the 'Lion's Rock').The Lion's Rock rises over the jungle from every side. There are many galleries and stairs that emerge from the mouth of a giant lion that is made of bricks and plaster. This is what gives access to the ancient site at Sigiriya.
