Come see OMCA’s 2024 Harker Fund Artist-in-Residence Chelsea Ryoko Wong’s feature, Ancestral Visions, newly on view in our Gallery of California Art.
Bay Area artist @ChelseaRWong began her project with research in OMCA’s collection focused on the wardrobes, photographs, and ephemera of six 20th-century Chinese American women—Rose Setzo, Sophia Chang Wong, Grace Dea, Lei Kim Lim, Sun Fung Lee Wong, and Chop Chin Chum. Wong drew inspiration from the women’s dresses, known as qipao or cheongsam, as well as what is known of their lives. Ancestral Visions is the artist’s reimagining of the past with a fantastical nod to the present.
The 2024 Harker Fund Artist Residency Program was supported by the Harker Fund.
