Anastancia works Monday through Friday as an Administrative Assistant in Kakamega town, Kenya. On the evenings and Saturdays, she works at the family farm to make sure everything is running properly and that the harvest has been stored well, while also dealing with problems that may arise.
Anastancia works to ensure there is money for the family and food on the table. And with her daughter in college and son who will soon be joining her, the farm plays many roles in her life. It not only provides food, it is also a source of income and a connection between her and her parents. It is also key to securing her children's future.
Even though she is an attentive farmer, Anastancia has experienced barriers to success including access to fertilizer. Often she risks not having enough money to buy fertilizer when she needs it. Additionally, she cannot control delayed or missed rainfall.
Now after joining Yara's Action Africa initiative in addition to receiving fertilizer, she has also received hyper-local weather notifications that help her to plan with more certainty.
And as a result to her success, she has started training her friends and neighbors from the community so they can all benefit from her knowledge and experiences.
