Borgsjo Church was built between 1766 and 1771 in the Rococo style.
It is considered one of the country's most important church monuments.
On the same site stood a stone church that was built in the 14th century, which was demolished in 1766. Some of the material was used to build the new church. The master builder was Daniel Hagman.
The church was completed in 1768, but all work was not completed until 1770.
The church was consecrated on 12 January 1772.
It is also the only church in the country where the interior is in the same condition as it was handed over to the congregation.
The pulpit and pew furnishings were made by carpenter Olof Hillgren. Most of the paintings were made by master Paul Hallberg, Hudiksvall. On the front of the pulpit, fifteen prophets are painted and in the middle is the name Yahweh in Hebrew letters. The pulpit is from 1771, the hexagonal baptismal font from 1693. The sacristy door bears details from the previous church. A censer from the 15th century is in the sacristy. A church chest that stands under the pulpit has five locks that must be opened in order. There is a story that the chest was stolen, but the thieves left it a short distance from the church because they could not open the lock. Under the pulpit are two wooden sculptures from the early 16th century. The organ from the 18th century has Gustav III's nameplate.
