A quick demo of my Sound Blaster running in an 8-bit ISA slot.
FM (OPL3) still works fine.
MIDI via MPU-401 UART also works as expected.
There are some limitations, but I’m quite happy with the audio results from this setup. It effectively behaves like a Sound Blaster Pro, so some SB16-specific features are unavailable, including:
16-bit digital audio
Certain mixer features
Advanced playback modes (e.g. 16-bit DMA)
CD-ROM interface (not usable in 8-bit mode)
Overall though, I’m very happy with the results.
