The Gold Buffalo coin is made of 24K gold, which is 4 9s fine pure gold, whereas the American Eagle 1 oz gold coin is made of 22k gold. While both coins are 1 ounce of gold, the American Eagle is heavier than the 1 oz gold Buffalo coin due to the Eagle having copper and silver added for durability.
The American Eagle gold bullion coin had a mintage of 850,000 1-ounce coins in 2022. The Gold Buffalo coin had a mintage of only 410,000, about half.
Investors seeking pure gold would do better with the Gold Buffalo since it has a greater purity than the Gold Eagle.
