In March 1996, some 23 years ago I composed my first (and only thus far) piece of music.
I was always a fan since my teens of electronic based music and had decided to learn the piano. In the process I ended up buying a second-hand Roland D10 keyboard.
Amidst the piano pieces I was assigned to practice, I ended up coming up with a musical idea.
That idea had stemmed from the music of Mark Snow who composed for a T.V show I was watching at the time called the X-Files. I liked the atmosphere and eeriness of his style, and the results of that ‘homage’ can be heard here.
I could neither write nor read music notation so what follows was recorded to cassette tape in one take from my head.

1959 - Broth Of A Boy (A.KA The Big Birthday)

$Level 5 - Blender 3D Modelling & Animation 2017 This was a collection of work for an end of course assessment and comprises the following pieces: 01: Two Bouncing Balls – With these two, one was to simply have upward and downward movement and the other was to skip off frame at an angle. I wanted to achieve an overhead view with the camera and have the left ball rising up to almost strike it. I chose red for the ball colours having seen many such balls in my youth (usually for sale near beaches) The lighting was important as was the ball surface to achieve a realistic look. Matching the audio of the bouncing balls to the contact with the surface was tricky due to the limitations in Windows Movie Maker. 02: Cloth Folds on Cube – This is a relatively simple effect to achieve but I didn’t like the various finishes I put to the cloth. I also wanted to add particle emissions to the cloth to give it apparent ‘magical’ properties. To make the falling cube more interesting I gave it a bit more mass so when it hit the surface, it would ‘clunk’ slightly before settling. 03: Suzanne Gets Covered in Cloth – This was tricky to achieve as early attempts looked fine in the user view but didn’t render correctly (and each render was taking 47 minutes a pop on my three year old laptop) The monkey head showed as a shadow despite lots of added lighting. My problem was having a grey background that wouldn’t reflect that light very well. I corrected this with a sky blend background. Also the cloth I wanted to be golden but wasn’t ‘glittering’ to my satisfaction. So, I ended opting for a red satin cloth and changing the head to a silver finish. 04: Abstract Photos on 3 x Objects Moving. Made in November 2016, this 3 second short has three different shapes moving simultaneously on a plane all with photos mapped. I wanted to have a torus spin around but also a sphere move through its centre, which I eventually managed to achieve. 05: Physics Exercise plus Keyframes – On this one I wanted to throw everything into the pot and have them all falling and bouncing around. As if you had just upended a box of playroom shapes on the floor. The floor in this case was a giant LP record. 06: Star Borgs – In this piece I sought to recreate the look of a space chase where we get the POV of being in an observing craft. Since we are in the Trek Universe we can make out the Starship Enterprise in the background. A Borg Cube is being followed by what look like three Space Hoppers. It’s being tailed and observed by a glass cube of unknown origin. (I added the surface refraction BSDF to achieve its look) There is a jerky movement at the end as the POV view is twisted and straightened just like a WW1 dogfight in the skies.
