Altitude Sickness (Acute Mountain Sickness) Dangers of High Altitude, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Altitude Sickness is a condition that occurs when going to high altitudes too quickly without proper acclimation, or to altitudes so high you can’t physiologically acclimate enough. This occurs because at higher altitudes, there are less air molecules (thinner air) and thus less oxygen molecules are there when taking a breath, leading to less oxygen in the blood. This leads to other alterations including respiratory alkalosis and increased sympathetic tone.
