After developing Genesis, a prosthetic hand that restored functional movement through EMG signals, Alt-Bionics set out to tackle a new frontier: robotic #dexterity and #teleoperation.
Transitioning from human muscle signals to external robotic control introduced major engineering challenges: sensor translation, expanded dexterity, and ultra-low latency.
To bridge this gap, Alt-Bionics integrated MANUS Metagloves Pro and the MANUS Core SDK into their development pipeline to create a custom transformation layer that maps human hand motion directly to robotic control.
The result: Surge, a 6-DoF robotic hand capable of real-time, human-like responsiveness. Powered by MANUS technology, Surge is already demonstrating safe and intuitive teleoperation in complex environments, ranging from disaster response to remote medical applications.
