Hey guys,
shape controls is the most important feature when it comes to manufacturability for topology optimization.
Symmetry makes sense as a shape control even with perfectly symmetric boundary conditions as the mesh might not be perfectly symmetric.
There are multiple ways of creating a symmetric shape control. The easiest being planar symmetry. Another type of symmetry is the cyclic symmetry, where you have to specify how many symmetric part should be full circle.
Symmetric bourdary conditions are important for generating manufacturable topology optimization results.
