Tonight on Hillbilly Crime, we are talking about the Siders case out of Vinton County, Ohio, and the phrase that made everybody stop:
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson reportedly said the 16 children found in the home looked like "almost feral animals." Sheriff Ryan Cain reportedly said livestock were kept in better condition.
Children are not animals. That is not how we are going to talk about them here. But when an official uses language that extreme, we have to ask why, and we have to ask what the adults in that home allegedly saw every single day.
Gary Siders Jr., Elizabeth Siders, Gary Siders Sr., and Christina Siders have each been charged with 16 counts of endangering children. They are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Tonight we are asking: if investigators saw it immediately, how did the adults allegedly miss it?
Where was mother's instinct?
Where was father's instinct?
Where were the grandparents?
And if public booking photos raise questions about who looked physically depleted and who did not, what might that tell us about control, access to food, power, and survival inside the home?
This is not about dehumanizing the children.
This is about humanizing them enough to ask who failed them.
