Tonight on Hillbilly Crime, we are digging into the part of the Siders case that started before the search warrant, before the mugshots, and before the public ever heard about 16 children being removed from a home in Hamden, Ohio.
This show is not about excusing harm. The children are the center.
But if we want to understand how cases like this happen, we have to look backward: Elizabeth Siders reportedly marrying at 15, Tessi Wright marrying 48-year-old Richard E. Siders at 14 while pregnant, another reported teen marriage in the Siders family, the old Ohio loopholes, poverty, isolation, and the systems that treated child marriage like paperwork instead of a warning sign.
