In this video, I’ll walk you through the entire process of accessing, removing, and repairing the spring piston to stop those annoying leaks. You don't need to be a professional technician to do this—just a bit of patience and the right steps!
What I cover in this tutorial:
00:00 - Krups EA series common leaking problem
00:15 - Hydraulic piston and brewing head mechanism explained
00:44 - Diagnosing the stuck piston and error codes
01:06 - Worn-out O-rings vs. New seals comparison
01:30 - Preparation for O-ring replacement
02:14 - How to remove the upper cover and piston
02:27 - Using a screwdriver to release the metal plate
02:55 - Step-by-step O-ring removal and installation
03:33 - Reassembling the hydraulic piston assembly
03:52 - Seating the seals and rods correctly
04:10 - Reinstalling the micro switch and metal plates
04:33 - Final assembly and support for my channel
Diagnosis: How to tell if the leak is coming from the piston assembly.
Disassembly: Removing the outer casing without breaking the plastic clips.
The Fix: Taking apart the spring piston, cleaning limescale buildup, and checking the O-rings.
Maintenance: Why lubricating the seals with food-grade silicone grease is a game-changer.
Reassembly & Testing: Getting everything back together and pulling a perfect leak-free shot.
Tools you’ll need:
Torx T10 screwdriver.
Replacement O-rings (if yours are cracked or flattened).
Food-safe silicone grease.
A small pick or flathead screwdriver.
Why does this happen?
Over time, rust build up inside the piston chamber, preventing the spring from seating correctly. This causes water to bypass the seals and leak into the machine's internals. A quick "deep clean" and seal inspection can save you a 150€ service bill!
