The ALIYAH

In the early 80s & 90s, Jews in the Former Soviet Union were persecuted in the masses: forbidden from learning and practicing their cultural & religious traditions, and prohibited from leaving the country. They were prevented from realizing their Jewish identity. As this oppression became known world-wide, nations gathered together to make a stand for the Jewish people under distress and exclaimed “Let my people go”. The influx of 1.5 million Soviet emigrants to the Land of Israel in such a short period of time a created a change in the landscape of the Israeli people and State. A change that improved the culture, society, and identity of the Jewish nation as a whole; seen in all areas of life, economics, politics, science, art, and sports.

The Event

400 people gathered at the Israeli Knesset to celebrate the success of the Aliyah that took place 25 years ago at an event organized by Helping Hand Coalition Global Forum and hosted by the Knesset Committee of Immigration and Absorption. Together stood hundreds of Holocaust survivors from the former Soviet Union with leaders of the Jewish State of Israel.
