Michele d'Ambrosio, piano
I. In modo funebre (to Igor Stravinsky)
II. In modo barbaro (to Enrique van der Henst) 3:56
III. In modo elegiaco (to Ildebrando Pizzetti) 6:00
IV. In modo burlesco (to Yvonne Lumley) 10:47
V. In modo esotico (to Florent Schmitt) 11:57
VI. In modo di nenia (to Maurice Ravel) 16:34
VII. In modo di minuetto (to Tina Dreyfus) 19:21
VIII. In modo di tango (to Yvonne Müller) 22:06
IX. In modo rustico (to Gian Francesco Malipiero) 26:10
Alfredo Casella (1883-1947) was an Italian conductor, pianist, and composer. He is perhaps best known today for conducting the Boston Pops and reviving the music of Antonio Vivaldi, but Casella also had a vivid imagination as a composer, as these nine contrasting pieces - dedicated to luminaries from Stravinsky to Malipiero - illustrate. If you can't get enough of Casella, I would highly recommend his three symphonies, which are some of the most impressive of their genre!
