Alex Murdaugh, through his attorney Dick Harpootlian, is appealing his murder convictions to the South Carolina Supreme Court. At the center of this appeal is the improprieties that occurred due to the actions of the Colleton County Clerk of Court, Becky Hill, that included what should be considered jury tampering (in my opinion) over the course of the trial and during deliberations.
In 2023, Murdaugh was convicted of murdering his wife and youngest son in June of 2021. He received two consecutive sentences of life without parole. Murdaugh was also sentenced to 40 years in prison for a separate Federal trial involving money laundering and wire fraud where he stole tens of millions of dollars from his clients.
