The album leaf is one of the many compositions that Chopin left unpublished during his life. As such it, it doesn't have an opus number but is instead often referred to with it's brown catalogue number.
Composed in 1843, the album leaf is a short piece fitting on one page. It is thematically similar to his nocturnes, but missing some of the mystical ingenuity that makes them so great. It is nonetheless a beautiful composition, and we can be glad it wasn't burned upon Chopin's death as he had wished. Another similar piece by him would be the Contredanse in G-flat major.
