"Ginchy" was officially released in January 1961 as a 7-inch vinyl single on the Top Rank International label, with "Yearning" as its B-side.
It entered the UK Singles Chart on February 8, 1961, and spent five weeks on the chart, peaking at number 35.
Cover versions
The Ventures, an incredibly prolific and influential American surf rock and instrumental rock band, released their cover of "Ginchy" in March 31, 1961.
It appeared on their album "Another Smash!!!" which was released in June 1961.
They also released it as a single with "Lullaby of the Leaves" as the B-side.
The Brazilian instrumental band The Jet Blacks also recorded a cover of "Ginchy" in 1962. This was part of their early output, as they were formed in 1961 and quickly became known for their covers of popular instrumental tracks.
While The Ventures and The Jet Blacks are arguably the most well-known bands to cover "Ginchy" from that era, the song has been covered by other groups over the years, though perhaps not with the same widespread recognition. For example, The Golden Guitars released a version in 1974.
