A community forum in Mobile brings together lawmakers, casino developers, gaming operators and residents to discuss the future of gambling in Alabama.
The panel includes Mark Tapia, a recent purchaser of proposed casino property in downtown Mobile; Representative J. Turner, a leading figure in Alabama gambling legislation; Joe Wilson, co-owner of Mobile Greyhound Park; and a representative of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, who were planning a casino in south Alabama.
More than 100 people attended the meeting at the Mary Abbie Berg Senior Citizen Center, where residents raised questions about a possible referendum, the impact of gambling on the community, and what legalized gaming could mean for local businesses.
