Gorgeous turquoise waters surround the pristinely clean beach which envelopes huge grassy areas featuring Royal Palm and Banyan trees. It's the perfect place to picnic, barbecue, or go for a run. The park offers lifeguards, showers, restrooms, phones, tennis courts, picnic tables, food concessions and a pavilion which almost always has musicians to entertain you.
In this video, we show the 39th annual Street Bikers United Hawaii event which served as a donation drive for Toys for Tots and increased awareness for biker safety across Oahu. The bikers rode from Ala Moana Beach Park, through Waikiki, and ended in Kakaako Park. It's an awesome sight to witness!
Other events in this park include:
• (Summer) The Friday Night Champagne Series (AKA Beer Can Races): Sail boat race from Ala Wai Harbor to the channel entrance buoy at Honolulu Harbor and back. Winner gets a bottle of cheap champagne.
• (Summer) Friday Night Fireworks: Hilton Hawaiian Village puts on a great show each week at 8pm. The view from Magic Island provides the perfect view with Waikiki and reflections of fireworks in the ocean.
• (July 4th) Ala Moana Shopping Center Fireworks: Launched from three locations on Magic Island at 8:30pm. About 50,000 people attend each year; so get there early and definitely don't drive.
• (Memorial Day) Shinnyo-en Lantern Floating Festival: More than ten thousand lanterns simultaneously released to the sky to remember family members who have passed. Grab a free lantern from the park tent, write your memorial on it and release at 7pm.
Return of the Hokulea - Hokulea, the sailing canoe that spent 3 years navigating around the world using traditional Hawaiian navigational techniques, returned to Hawaii at Magic Island in 2017. The event drew thousands of people and was broadcast live on major Honolulu TV stations.
