This performance by Canada-based Hindustani vocalist Akhil Jobanputra is part of the Kishima Arts Foundation-curated FIRST LIGHT series featuring young musicians presenting rarely performed repertoire of Indian classical music, accompanied by interesting stories of their lineage.
Akhil's second and concluding piece of his recital is a rarely heard Dhamar composed by his guru Pt. Arijit Mahalanabis in Raag Lakshmi Todi. This version of the raag is a speciality of the Ratanjankar parampara of the Agra gharana.
Akhil is accompanied by Swapnil Bhise on tabla and Vanraj Shastri on sarangi. Tanpura support is provided by Jayant Naidu.
