I’ve spent the last week trying to figure out what, exactly, the AirPods Pro 3 are supposed to be. Are they just another update, or are they Apple’s strangest flex yet? This is the first pair of earbuds I’ve tried that don’t just block noise. They erase it, leaving the world looking the same but sounding impossibly empty. I’ve tested them in rooms full of people, at Apple Park, even on cross-country flights. The moment you put them in, the rest of the world sort of fades, but what really surprised me is how normal everything still feels. There’s no pressure, no hiss, no “robot voice” when you switch to transparency. It’s just your ears, but smarter.
There are new tricks, of course. Apple added live translation, heart rate tracking, better battery, and smarter case-finding features. But the stuff that sticks with me is smaller. Conversation awareness just works in the background, the ear tips actually fit, and somehow eight hours of use actually feels long enough. It’s the first time I made it from Seattle to New York without worrying about the battery running out halfway through.
The case battery is the big compromise here, dropping to 24 hours. That’s not nothing. But unless you never take them out, that’s a trade I’ll take for real silence and smarter features.
