This video, by The Cooper Institute, shows how to perform intervals for the anaerobic system utilizing an air dyne machine. You can also perform these intervals using a 1:3 work to rest ratio; for example, 10 seconds of work followed by 30 seconds of rest.
To perform upper body HIIT using the Air-Dyne, the individual should be thoroughly warmed up with the seat height properly adjusted. While holding the handle bars, rest the feet on the pegs located on the outside of the front fan cage. Then vigorously move the handle bars forward and backwards at near-maximal effort for 10 to 20 seconds. Recover from the interval by allowing the bike to slow down and place feet back on pedals. At a slow pace, pedal while continuing to move the handlebars for three to five times as long as the interval period. Then repeat. The video shows an abbreviated version of performing upper body intervals on the Air-Dyne Bike.
