The Salem Witch Trials, which occurred in 1693, led to the prosecution of over 200 people accused of practicing witchcraft in the town of Salem, USA. Among those tried was **Agatha Harkness**, a powerful witch from the Salem coven, who secretly practiced dark magic. Despite being accused by her mother, **Evanora Harkness**, Agatha denied the charges. When her coven attempted to execute her with energy beams, Agatha reversed the spell, killing the witches, including her mother, before fleeing to master dark magic.
Agatha’s journey began in the comics in 1969 as the caretaker of Franklin Richards, revealing her witchcraft when she defeated the villainous **Frightful Four**. Over time, she helped the **Fantastic Four** and even trained **Scarlet Witch**.
In the MCU, Agatha's story diverged, starting with her birth in 1674 and involvement in dark magic. After vanishing for centuries, she reappeared in **Westview**, New Jersey, during the events of **WandaVision**. Agatha, sensing Wanda’s immense magical power, infiltrated the warped reality Wanda created, posing as a friendly neighbor named "Agnes." Throughout the series, Agatha manipulated events to understand how Wanda created such a powerful alternate reality.
Agatha orchestrated several events, including controlling Westview’s residents and even impersonating Wanda’s deceased brother, Pietro, to observe Wanda’s powers up close. Eventually, she revealed her true identity to Wanda, showing that she had been pulling the strings all along.
In their final confrontation, Agatha tried to absorb Wanda’s chaos magic, but Wanda, having learned from Agatha’s own tactics, trapped her in a protective spell. In the end, Wanda stripped Agatha of her magic and left her trapped in her "Agnes" persona.
